s JOSEPH KAFTAN :: MOSAICS

COMMISSION POLICY
The first step to commission a mosaic is to discuss and agree upon your desired subject matter. Next, the size of the mosaic and the style of frame will be chosen. Joseph Kaftan will design a digital guide image for the mosaic in good faith. Once this is approved by the client, a fee is determined and 50% is paid by check, PayPal or Venmo. Upon receipt of the initial payment, work will begin on your commission. The mosaic will be completed in 1 to 3 months. Final payment, plus shipping & handling, is due upon completion. Your mosaic will be shipped to you when final payment is received.

COMMISSIONS
Subject matter for a commissioned mosaic could come from a photograph, an existing mosaic or painting, a subject of interest, or an idea that exists only in your mind. You might ask for a landscape, building, kind of fish, bird, flower or something as seemingly ordinary as a bunch of beets. If it is meaningful to you, Joseph can work with you to bring your idea to life.

VARIATIONS ON EXISTING WORKS
Joseph Kaftan also welcomes requests for variations on existing pieces in his portfolio. You may commission a unique work by identifying a piece you already like and requesting changes such as the type of glass used (stained or smalti glass), a different background or a different size. Some variants are represented in the examples below.

PORTRAIT COMMISSIONS
The process starts with photographs of the person to be depicted. A photo-illustration is worked up and approved. Next, the frame and medium of the background are decided upon. Portraits can be beautiful and creative but there must be a resemblance as well. Because of this they tend to take more than twice the time of other subjects and that is reflected in the price.
